Syntax fail

In my evaluation reading today:

“A researcher may fail to reject a false null hypothesis because…”

Ok, I realize that this is all official research/statistics language and thus is actually the proper way to phrase it, but I had to get Ben to double-check my logic so that I was sure I was canceling out the right number of negatives!  Translation: “sometimes there is something significant going on, but the researcher doesn’t realize it for the following reasons…”
