Sheep expedition

Yesterday I went to a sheep-shearing festival here in Waltham with Ben.  It was an excellent expedition by bike.  I haven’t been to a fair in *ages*.  There was lemonade and fudge (neither of which we actually partook of, but it’s the principle of the thing) and lots of shiny objects for sale and many adorable fuzzy critters.  The miniature goats were especially adorable.  When we have a house, we will have mini goats.  I bought 10 ounces of beautiful and remarkably reasonably-priced mohair from a local small farmer, who has only been in the business for a few years, after giving up his “normal” job to raise sheep and goats.  I’d never spun mohair before…it is officially the Best Fiber Ever.  It spins up to strong thin yarn practically just by looking at it, and it’s wonderfully fuzzy.  I also bought some rosemary-scented goat’s milk soap from the same farm.  We shared a cup of some of the best homemade strawberry ice cream I’ve ever had.
